Social Media Guidelines for Central Phoenix / Inez Casiano NOW Leadership and Membership Use

This policy is intended to help guide Central Phoenix / Inez Casiano NOW chapter (CP/IC NOW CHAPTER) Leadership and members with their activist and personal use of social media, including: Networking sites (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn), Blogs, online forums and message boards (i.e. Twitter), Photo and video sharing sites (i.e. Flickr, YouTube).

Policies and Procedures

Activity

Ensure that your social networking activity does not interfere with NOW members or allies. Check with your NOW chapter leadership if you have questions. When you participate in social media, you need to be careful about the information you provide and to distinguish personal from activist/political comments.

Itentity

Use your personal email address (not your CP/IC NOW chapter.org address CentralPhoenixNOW@gmail.com) as your primary means of identification. Just as you would not use CP/IC NOW CHAPTER stationery for a letter to the editor with your personal views, do not use your NOW chapter e-mail address, meme, avatar, brand, website blog, etc. to express your personal views unless expressly identified as doing so.

Content

Consider your content carefully as posting on the internet and social media as it lives forever. Be respectful and activist appropriate and professional.

A good rule of thumb is to post only something you would want your NOW National President to read back to you in person in an interview on live television asking, “Did you THINK NOW before you posted?”

THINK NOW:

1) T – Is this the Truth?

2) H – Is this Helpful?

3) I – Is this Intriguing?

4) N – Is this Necessary?

5) K – Is this Kind?

6)  NOW – Is this in alignment with our purpose: NOW’s  purpose is to take action through intersectional grassroots activism to promote feminist ideals, lead societal change, eliminate discrimination, and achieve and protect the equal rights of all women and girls in all aspects of social, political, and economic life.

Be clear that your posts reflect your opinion; you do not speak for the NOW chapter, national policy or another member unless elected to do so.

Announcements

If you mention CP/IC NOW CHAPTER or related matters, disclose your connection with CP/IC NOW CHAPTER and your role. Be activist appropriate and professional and strive for accuracy in your communications; errors and omissions reflect poorly on you and on CP/IC NOW CHAPTER and may result in liability.
